Excursion destinations in Dornbirn

Rolls Royce Museum

In the historic textile factory not far from the Rappenloch Gorge is the world's largest Rolls Royce museum.

There are more than 1000 exhibits to be seen over an exhibition surface of 3500 m2. In addition, you can admire a reconstruction of the first Rolls Royce manufacturing facility over 3 floors, an in-house restoration workshop, an original team room for all kinds of festivities, and the Hall of Fame.

Among the numerous individual pieces on display, you will also find the safari tour car of King George V and the landau of the Queen Mother.

Rappenloch Gorge

A special natural treasure is the Rappenloch Gorge in Dornbirn. The starting point is the district of Gütle. After a short walk, you will reach the entrance to the gorge in ca. 10 min. After a rock fall in May 2011, the old path is no longer accessible. A newly created path now runs along the edge of the gorge and leads into a spectacular uphill climb that has been attached to the rock wall. It offers breathtaking views of the gorge and the rock fall.

At the end of the gorge, you will reach the Staufensee (600m), around which there is a beautiful trail.

The Alploch Gorge begins behind the power station. Along the path, you will see the same geological features that you saw in the Rappenloch. A beautiful wooden walkway offers wonderful experiences and impressions of the gorge. The path continues up to the Ebniter Straße, where the Schmitte bus stop (695m) is located. The bus will take you comfortably back to Gütle (pay attention to the bus schedule and be sure to start your hike in Gütle early enough!).

The hike is a great experience especially for families with children.

Shopping in the city of Dornbirn

Dornbirn is no. 1 in Vorarlberg when it comes to shopping. The city center with its special flair offers over 220 shops and restaurants. The "Messepark" also includes a vast offer of different shops.

The weekly market takes place on Wednesday and Saturday, morning to midday, in the market square. Here, there are numerous regional products such as cheese, wild game specialties, fish, olives, jams, mushrooms, pestos, flowers, plants, and much more.

Karren

Dornbirn's local mountain, the Karren, is a popular gathering place – especially for hikers.

Many beautiful hiking paths start here. If you prefer to take it easy, you can enjoy the magnificent view or enjoy treats in the panoramic restaurant. The cable car will take you up the mountain in less than 5 min. You will have a truly splendid view over the roofs of the city as well as the Rhine Valley, the Swiss mountains, and Lake Constance.

Particularly sporty people can of course climb the mountain on foot!
